How It All Began ...
Legatus Trading was founded in January 2021, born from both frustration and ambition, by its two founders, Clive Hedges and Tim Cruise. Clive, having realised his talent as a forex trader, wanted to create a trading platform that would allow everyday people to participate with low entry costs and high flexibility. However, he wasn’t quite sure how to bring such a vehicle to life.
Tim, on the other hand, had lost significant money with other forex traders and grew frustrated with their lack of business sense and the wild fluctuations in profits and losses. He knew it was possible to create a trading platform that could be profitable, consistent, and sustainable—but needed a dependable, skilled trader to make it happen.
A chance meeting led to several conversations between Clive and Tim, and soon they realized that by pooling their talents, they could achieve their shared vision. They decided to create a forex trading vehicle that was flexible, consistently profitable, and accessible. Thus, in January 2021, they launched Legatus Trading to test their business model and trading strategy.
After 18 months of development and testing, they were confident their unique approach was effective. In August 2022, they officially registered Legatus Trading Ltd., opening the door for others to become shareholders and join their vision.
Clive Hedges
Clive is the heart and soul of Legatus, the visionary and driving force behind everything we do.

His exceptional trading expertise and innovative strategies have been the key to Legatus consistently delivering impressive results, ensuring our shareholders are always left more than satisfied. It’s Clive’s unique approach and dedication that have turned Legatus into what it is today—a company known for success.
Clive’s career has been as varied as it is impressive. He spent time in the British Army, showing the same grit and determination that he brings to the trading floor today. After being medically discharged, the Army’s loss became Legatus’ greatest gain. It was during this time that Clive discovered his incredible talent for forex trading. With a sharp mind for strategy and a natural knack for reading the markets, he quickly made his mark.
And the rest, as they say, is history! Today, Clive continues to inspire, leading Legatus forward with passion, precision, and an unshakeable commitment to success.
Tim Cruise
Tim is the business brain that supports Clive working to ensure the smooth operation and growth of Legatus.
With a Business Degree under his belt, Tim spent over 20 years climbing the ranks in corporate management, eventually reaching a senior level before deciding to carve out his own path.
This shift led him to become a serial entrepreneur, where he found true success by launching several start-ups in South Africa and beyond. His ventures have spanned various industries, and his track record of turning ideas into thriving businesses is nothing short of impressive.
Over the years, Tim has taken on multiple directorship roles and even became a qualified company secretary, adding to his extensive skill set. His deep understanding of business, management, and systems is the backbone of Legatus. Bringing over 40 years of experience to the table, Tim’s expertise has been instrumental in shaping the company’s vision, ensuring it remains profitable, sustainable, and future-focused.
Tim’s journey from corporate to entrepreneurial success is marked by resilience and a keen eye for opportunity. Just as Clive is the heart of Legatus, Tim is the engine that keeps it running efficiently, ensuring that all the pieces fit together. With his vast knowledge and business acumen, Tim’s contributions ensure that Legatus continues to evolve and excel in a competitive market.
